Thomas Schütte at KiS

19.06. – 17.09.2026

KiS – Kunst in Seefeld is presenting an exhibition featuring woodcuts, an architectural model and a video about the realisation of Thomas Schütte’s „Ferienhaus T.“. Since the 1980s, houses, rooms and architectural structures have been recurring themes in the artist’s work. The exhibition links the series of works on houses with large-format woodcuts in which doors, windows, staircases and façades are reduced to clear, powerful visual forms.

„Simply sitting and looking out at the lake is a purpose in itself. Just gazing peacefully at a tree is a necessity. You can’t always be looking at images that make you feel grumpy or nervous.“
Thomas Schütte

July and August 2026

As part of the exhibition „Thomas Schütte – Haus T“, members and patrons of KiS – Kunst in Seefeld will be granted exclusive access to Ferienhaus T – the holiday home built by Teresa and Rafael Jablonka in Mösern in 2012 – on four dates in July and August 2026.

„Since his early days, Schütte has, more than almost any other artist of his time, made the model – or, more precisely, the architectural model – one of the forms of his work.“
Julian Heynen

What makes this presentation special is that visitors can view both the model of the house at KiS – Kunst in Seefeld and the completed „Ferienhaus T“ in Mösern.

Talks, films and more

Members and patrons of the KiS – Kunst in Seefeld association enjoy many benefits, such as exclusive invitations to concerts, panel discussions and readings. As part of the programme accompanying the exhibition „Thomas Schütte – Haus T“, the KiS team is planning, amongst other things, a panel discussion on 10 September 2026 at 6 pm, a panel discussion with architect Kathrin Aste and Rafael Jablonka on the architectural aspect of Thomas Schütte’s oeuvre.

On 15 September 2026, the Leokino in Innsbruck will screen the documentary *I Am Not Alone*, in which director Corinna Belz profiles the artist Thomas Schütte and his work.

Jablonka Collection in Seefeld

Exclusive tour for KiS members

The Jablonka Collection – built up over many years by Rafael Jablonka – forms the rich resource from which the gallery owner draws to curate the exhibitions at KiS – Kunst in Seefeld. Eric Fischl’s Krefeld Project is represented there, as is Mike Kelley’s Kandor, alongside works by Francesco Clemente, Nobuyoshi Araki, David LaChapelle and Andy Warhol. For those interested, KiS – Kunst in Seefeld regularly offers guided tours of the Jablonka Collection’s exhibition spaces. Art enthusiast Angela Braster, who is herself active in the KiS – Kunst in Seefeld association, shares interesting facts about the artists and introduces some of the works.

KiS stands for art in the centre of Seefeld

The transformation of the fire station

In June 2021, the old fire station in the centre of Seefeld opened its doors for a new art experience. A partnership between the municipality and the Seefeld-based art collector couple Teresa and Rafael Jablonka makes it possible for visitors from near and far to experience contemporary art of an international calibre in the village on the Seefeld plateau.

With exhibitions changing twice a year and free admission. KiS has now developed into an artistic hub, not least thanks to the Friends’ Association founded in 2022. The vernissages, concerts, readings and artist talks, which take place alongside the current exhibition, are well attended.

Ausstellung David LaChapelle in Seefeld

International level

KiS stands for art in Seefeld - and at the same time for the presentation of works of contemporary art that can be seen in the world's major museums and galleries. Names such as Miquel Barceló, Andy Warhol, David LaChapelle, Platon and Thomas Schütte speak for themselves.

Zeitgenössische Kunst in Seefeld

Contemporary art

Contemporary art is at the centre of the twice-yearly changing exhibitions in the Alte Feuerwehrhalle in Seefeld. And works from the 20th and 21st centuries also dominate the supporting programme of concerts and readings.

Art education

We want to minimise the barrier to entry, which is why we offer free admission to our exhibitions. We also work together with schools and organise special children's programmes to awaken an interest in art at an early age.

Finissage on 23 March

The aim of our KiS association, founded in 2022, is to "promote contemporary art in Seefeld". We want to do justice to this not only with our exhibitions, but also with various events. KiS initiator Rafael Jablonka and Florian Waldvogel, Head of the Art History Collections from 1900 onwards at the Tyrolean Provincial Museum, meet for a discussion with the artist of the current exhibition, Pia Fries, at a finissage. The exhibition tausend : einerlei runs until Sunday, 17 March, and we invite you to the finissage on 23 March at 5 pm. We look forward to your registration.

Art meeting point in Seefeld

Vernissage of the current exhibition

After the opening of the sixth KiS - Art in Seefeld exhibition, it is safe to say that Seefeld is making a name for itself among art lovers. Around 80 guests from near and far came to meet the Swiss artist Pia Fries (2nd from right) and see her works, which Friedhelm Mennekes (right) described vividly in his introduction. Teresa and Rafael Jablonka made this initiative possible with their art and commitment. We welcomed 113 visitors to the exhibition during the extended "Christmas Opening" from 28 December 2023 to New Year's Sunday alone.
