Ten Portraits of Jews of the 20th Century

An important name in 20th century art is at the centre of the third exhibition at KiS - Kunst in Seefeld. The small Seefeld art gallery presents Andy Warhol's homage to Jewish intellectual greats of the past century. When Ron Feldman, an art dealer friend of Warhol's, suggested to him around 100 names of Jewish celebrities from art, science, politics and other fields to be artistically reworked, the „Ten Portraits“ project was born.
In many conversations, ten names finally crystallised, including Sigmund Freud, Sarah Bernhardt, Golda Meir and a group portrait, namely that of the legendary four „Marx Brothers“.

American artist, film director, producer and leading figure in Pop Art culture
Warhol, born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh in 1928, achieved his artistic breakthrough in 1961 with the „Campbell's Soup Cans“, a solo exhibition in Los Angeles that had already become an art cliché. He quickly became a key figure in the American art and culture scene and produced world-class works of art with his three „Factories“. Warhol is the epitome of American art, although he repeatedly holds up a critical mirror to American society in his artworks. He plays with all genres in the style of the Pop Art movement - painting, graphic art, film and photography. He died in 1987 at the age of just 58, and the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh opened a year after his death.
